Nursing homes - long-term stays

Nursing homes offer around the clock care for individuals dependent on care and in need of medical and nursing follow-up and care 24 hours a day.

Description

A long-term stay at a nursing home is for those who need nursing and care all day and night. You must apply to the municipality for a place in a nursing home. We will determine your wants and needs before a decision can be made on the case. We will normally make a home visit.

If you meet the criteria for a long-term stay, you have the right to a written decision in this regard, even if there are no open places in the nursing home at the time.

If you are assigned a place in a nursing home, your need for assistance will be specified by the decision.

Criteria/conditions

The municipality must have a special set of rules with the criteria for allocating places in nursing homes.

Charges/Cost of the service

The municipality may require payment from the resident. The payment amount is specified by government regulations (see Laws and regulations).

Guidelines – applying for, or receiving the service

You can contact the municipality for assistance in applying for a long-term stay at a nursing home, or you can ask others to help you if necessary. If someone else applies on your behalf, he or she must have authorisation.

Appendix/supplement

You must provide authorisation if someone else applies for you.

Administrative procedure

We will determine your specific wants and needs before a decision can be made on the case. We will normally make a home visit. If you are assigned a place in a nursing home, your need for assistance will be specified by the decision. You will normally receive an explanation together with the notification of the decision. You will always receive an explanation if there is a possibility that you will be dissatisfied with the decision. If an explanation is not included, you can obtain one by enquiring with the municipality within the deadline for appeals to the decision.

There may not be an available place in the nursing home, even if you meet the criteria for a spot. In such case, you will receive a written decision from us stating that you meet the criteria and that you will be placed on a waiting list.

Time taken to consider the application

The municipality will process the case as soon as possible. If a decision cannot be reached on the case within one month, you will receive a written message stating the reason as to why. You will also be informed of when the decision is expected to be made.

Possibilities to appeal; procedure

If you are dissatisfied with the decision, you can appeal to the municipality within three weeks from the date on which you received it. Explain what you are dissatisfied with and why you believe the decision should be changed. If you need guidance, you can enquire with the municipality. If the municipality upholds its decision, you can forward your complaint to the county governor.

You can also file a complaint regarding the performance of the service. Submit your complaint to the municipality or directly to the service provider.
